North Carolina R&B singer and songwriter Annie Tracy might have another EP or album on the way, but for now, she’s just released her latest single, “To Love and Be Loved.” The track is a smooth, slow-building listen that leans into the warmth of real connection. It starts with an understated guitar and ambient textures before gradually expanding into a fuller, more layered sound that mirrors the feeling of growing closeness — subtle at first, then undeniable. They really let the beat build here.

The arrangement stands out in particular. What begins as an intimate moment eventually shifts with a bassline that drops in about halfway through, adding a fresh sense of energy. There’s even a touch of hip-hop influence in that transition, bringing an unexpected dynamic that adds weight without losing the softness at the core of the song. It’s a sonic climb that feels intentional, and it showcases Annie’s control as both a writer and performer.

Annie’s voice becomes more impassioned as the track progresses, culminating in a soaring finale underscored by orchestral elements. Her lyrics bring out the emotional clarity that’s quickly becoming her trademark: “It’s like somewhere so far away / Where troubles go melting away / Except it’s not even a place / Cause home has always been you, babe.”

Ahead of the release, Annie shared, “Fear of love is like the fear of heights — intimidating at first, but once you experience it, you realize you're no longer afraid. With real, genuine love, you discover the strength to soar. Love doesn’t just lift you; it empowers you to reach the sky.”

“To Love and Be Loved” follows Annie’s 2024 EP ACT II, which featured the Robin Thicke-assisted “Close to You” and viral hit “Music Taste,” a song that has already racked up over 4.5 million streams. It’s also our favorite body of work from Annie to date, showcasing her growth in both songwriting and emotional range. She broke through with her 2023 debut EP ACT I, which included “Times It by Two,” produced by Grammy-winner D’Mile.

Now mentored by R&B production legend Tricky Stewart, who has produced for Beyoncé, Rihanna and Frank Ocean, Annie is laying the foundation for her next chapter. With a third EP, ACT UP, slated for early 2025, her story is still unfolding. But with "To Love and Be Loved," she's clearly tapped into something timeless and true.
