In the heart of San Fernando Valley, ATM Danny, born Danny Hernandez, is rapidly becoming one of the most influential voices in the 818 music scene. Raised in Van Nuys, Danny's journey from a soccer-loving kid to a viral rap sensation has been anything but ordinary. Recently, he sat down for an in-depth conversation on the Let You Tell It podcast, where he reflected on his roots, his rise to fame, and what's next for him.
Danny's connection to his hometown runs deep, and this was evident when he chose to conduct his interview at the Regency Theaters, formerly known as Mann Theaters, in Panorama City. “This place holds so many memories for me,” Danny shared. “Growing up, we’d spend entire Sundays here, sneaking into multiple movies. It was like a tradition for my family.”
Despite growing up in a neighborhood often associated with gang activity, Danny managed to steer clear of that path. "I stayed focused on soccer and my own lane," he explained. "My older brother was into tagging, but I just wasn't about that life." Instead, Danny found solace in music, which eventually led him to start recording in 2015, shortly after graduating high school.
His breakthrough moment came in 2023 when a TikTok video featuring his track "I'm On" went viral, propelling him into the spotlight. "I had only 10 followers at the time, and suddenly I was getting 100 likes. It was a game changer," Danny recounted. Since then, he has seen his monthly listeners skyrocket from 400 to over 100,000, a testament to his growing influence.
Danny's music, characterized by a smooth West Coast vibe, is often compared to artists like Drakeo the Ruler, but he insists his style is unique. "I know my music is different, and that's why it resonates with so many people across the globe," he said. His recent project, "Liftoff," has been a significant milestone, with the cover art and concept reflecting his creative vision and collaboration with local artists.
Looking ahead, Danny has big dreams. From headlining Coachella to performing at the World Cup, he’s set on taking his music to the next level. He’s also working on a collaborative tape with Depri, slated for release this summer, which promises to be a hit.
Despite his success, Danny remains grounded, attributing much of his growth to the support of his family and friends. “I wouldn’t be here without them,” he acknowledged. As for the future, ATM Danny is focused on continuing to make waves in the music industry while staying true to his roots. “I’m just getting started,” he declared.
With his authenticity and talent, ATM Danny is more than just a rapper; he's a representation of the 818—resilient, real, and ready to rise.
