Austin’s Moody Amphitheater transformed into a serene oasis on October 5, as Kehlani delivered an unforgettable performance, filled with the endless amounts emotion from her songs. The packed house eagerly awaited the headliner, who is fresh off the release of her mixtape, While We Wait 2. But before she took the stage, two rising acts set the tone for the evening.
Atlanta’s own Anycia opened the night, stepping out confidently despite questioning whether the Texas crowd knew her. By the time she wrapped her set, it was clear they did. Anycia performed her hit "Back Outside" along with several new records from her upcoming project, Princess Pop That. Her “fly homegirl” vibe resonated with the audience, and she left the stage knowing she had made a meaningful connection.

Next, the British trio FLO brought a fresh wave of energy to the show. Known for their viral hit "Cardboard Box" and comparisons to iconic girl groups like Destiny’s Child and Sugababes, FLO gave the Austin crowd a taste of their unique blend of nostalgia and modern R&B. Dressed in army fatigues that instantly brought to mind Destiny’s Child’s Survivor music video, they embodied their empowering slogan, "Where Baddies Unite."
The trio captivated the audience with harmonies reminiscent of early 2000s R&B. FLO has been on the rise since their debut, recently winning the 2023 Brits Rising Star Award and earning praise from legends like Missy Elliott and SZA. Their performance added an undeniable spark to the night, making it clear why they’re being heralded as the future of girl groups.

When Kehlani finally appeared, rocking a fitted white lace tank top and forest green baggy jeans, the amphitheater erupted. From the moment she took the stage, it was clear that she had the crowd in the palm of her hand. Her effortless connection with fans was undeniable, holding the mic out during several songs and letting the audience take over with ease. Each time, the crowd knew every word.
Kehlani’s set was filled with the hits that fans came to hear, but she also treated the audience to new music. She performed three tracks from While We Wait 2, including "When He’s Not There," "S.I.N.G.L.E.," and "Border." Fans vibed hard to the new material, further solidifying her status as a consistent force in R&B. Alongside these fresh tracks, she delivered two cuts from her earlier mixtapes, a special treat for her day-one supporters.
Beyond the music, Kehlani’s stage presence was something to behold. She commanded the entire space, engaging not only with the crowd but also with her band members, creating a unified, almost familial energy on stage. One fan in the crowd aptly described her as “a true master of putting on a show.” Her ability to balance intimacy with powerful, high-energy moments made the performance feel personal yet grand.
Overall, the night was a testament to Kehlani’s growth as an artist and performer. From the fresh talent of Anycia and the nostalgic, yet modern energy of FLO, to Kehlani’s commanding performance, the entire show felt like a celebration of connection, energy, and powerful music. Austin, no doubt, felt the love.
