Smino's latest project, "Maybe in Nirvana," features a collection of songs created before his previous album, "Luv 4 Rent." Smino explained his decision to release this project, stating, "It's just new Smino music, you know? And it's from an era of my life where I'm like, '[Expletive] this [expletive] got to come out, 'cause if I don't put this out then I feel weird putting out the next [expletive].' You know, like it was just burning me. So it's a chapter that, you know, this needs to be put this out. Yeah, it was a whole just a whole lot of lot going on."
Reflecting on "Houns" and "Ready Set Goku"
Smino delved deeper into two standout tracks from "Maybe in Nirvana": "Houns" and "Ready Set Goku." Originally titled "Pimp Soda," "Houns" showcases Smino's playful and irreverent side. He described the track as "disrespectful," but also "funny and lighthearted."
In contrast, "Ready Set Goku" tells a more personal story, exploring a past relationship that deeply affected Smino. "Even to this day that song is hard to listen to for me," he admitted, referencing the emotional weight of the track.
Moving On and Moving Forward
Smino also discussed his approach to breakups, revealing a preference for fresh starts and new environments. He shared his experience of moving to LA after a particularly difficult breakup, explaining, "She went through my phone and I was like all right bet I'm out."
Looking Ahead: Festivals, Fashion, and the Future
Beyond music, Smino shared his aspirations for the future, including plans to curate a festival in his hometown of St. Louis called Country Cousins. He also expressed his desire to elevate his fashion game, aiming to become "the freshest [expletive] on Earth" in 2025.
